Simko Project
Kayseri Electric Company, is the electrical distribution utility in the city of Kayseri and its surroundings. In 1994, Siemens Turkey, Simko, has implemented a SCADA system to control and monitor citywide medium voltage distribution network. The MV distribution SCADA project was initially implemented to cover 18 stations. All stations in the first phase of this project were located within the city and therefore dedicated point to point telephone lines have been used for field communications. In 1998, the customer needed to include one more MV station which is located 30 km away from SCADA center. The station was located in rural area and therefore there was no telephone infrastructure available. Accordingly, Siemens has contacted with SYS to provide a wireless link between the new MV station and the SCADA center. SYS has developed a special firmware of its WDM1000 wireless data modem and implemented Siemens 3964R protocol to enable wireless link between the Siemens PLC and the SCADA center. SYS has supplied and commissioned two WDM1000 wireless data modem installed in cabinets complete with power supplies and accessories. One cabinet was installed at the MV station and integrated with the existing PLC while the other cabinet was installed at the SCADA center and interfaced with the front-end processor.
